The book of Acts is a powerful story that carries us along in the great epic of how the early church was birthed and spread throughout the world. It is the report of an adventure, filled with arrests, imprisonments, beatings, riots, narrow escapes, martyrdom, a resurrection from death, an exorcism, shipwreck, trial scenes, miraculous rescues and powerful sermons. Its title could well be “The Acts of the Holy Spirit” or “The Acts of the Risen Christ Through the Holy Spirit Working Through the Church.” I pray that you will join us in this journey through the book of Acts as we look at how the “works of the resurrected Jesus” shaped the faith and community of the first century church. The end goal is that we would, by work of the Holy Spirit, be more in love with God and more deeply devoted to His mission of the Gospel.
